March: National Nutrition Month®

Good nutrition fuels your body, supports your health and can help lower the risk of chronic disease.

National Nutrition Month® was established in 1973 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and runs every moth of March. It aims to help people make informed food choices and develop healthful eating and physical activity habits. The theme for 2026 is “Discover the Power of Nutrition“.

Now is the perfect time to focus on how the foods we choose can help us feel stronger and more energized every day. An easy way to do this is to include as many colors as possible in our plates, and to make sure that we eat at least 30 different fruits and vegetables per week. This way, we will ensure we are feeding our bodies with variety of beneficial compounds, as each color is associated to a different protective phytonutrient, and that we are feeding our gut microorganisms as so they can thrive and protect us.

This month of March, I invite you to choose healthful and colorful foods from all food groups (eat the rainbow), and alternate your food choices for a variety of nutrients (aiming for 30 different fruits and veggies per week).
